On-chain settlement, off-chain trust: where the operator still holds the keys

Online casinos ask players to trust what they cannot see. Balances, bankroll solvency and the location of deposited funds sit inside operator systems that players, affiliates and often regulators cannot inspect. DeGaming claims to have moved fund settlement onto public infrastructure, so balances, payouts and bonuses can be observed rather than reported. Chief executive Ulle Skottling does not dispute the limits: game logic, RNG and custody remain with licensed providers and operators, and compliance obligations are untouched. What changes, on his account, is that custody becomes checkable in real time, including while a withdrawal is held for AML or fraud review. The commercial test is narrower than the rhetoric. DeGaming is building first for operators serving crypto-native players, and the model's relevance beyond that segment is, by its own framing, a bet on wider blockchain adoption. In this Q&A, Skottling sets out what the Glass Vault model exposes on-chain, what stays conventional, how compliance controls interact with on-chain settlement, and where adoption begins.

Gaming Eminence: DeGaming talks about moving iGaming from a “black box” to a “glass vault”. In practical product terms, what becomes visible that players, operators, affiliates or regulators could not previously verify?
Ulle Skottling: "DeGaming fundamentally changes how player funds are managed and verified. Player balances are held in aggregated on-chain wallets that are fully segregated from all other funds. This means player funds are never used for other purposes, such as paying another player’s winnings or covering operational expenses. At any time, players can independently verify that their funds remain secure and fully backed on-chain.
Every bet is settled transparently. When a player places a bet, the wager amount is transferred directly from the player’s wallet to the on-chain bankroll. If the player wins, the payout is immediately transferred back from the bankroll to the player’s wallet. Every transaction is publicly verifiable, creating complete transparency around player activity and fund movement. This benefits every participant in the ecosystem.
This transparency benefits every participant in the ecosystem. For players, it means they can independently verify that their funds are protected and that winnings are paid directly to their wallets. For operators, it provides verifiable proof of solvency, transparent bankroll liquidity and a higher level of trust than traditional online casinos.
Affiliates also benefit. Rather than relying solely on operator reporting, they can independently verify on-chain player activity generated through their referrals. This increases confidence in both reporting accuracy and commercial relationships.
Finally, regulators gain access to a transparent, immutable record of fund movements and bankroll activity, making oversight and compliance significantly easier than in a traditional black-box platform."
Gaming Eminence: When DeGaming says every bet, payout and player incentive is verifiable, what is actually happening on-chain, and which parts of the platform still rely on standard centralised infrastructure?
Ulle Skottling: "Beyond wager and payouts, the same principle applies to player incentives such as bonuses, cashback and rewards. These are all distributed on-chain and can be independently verified. This creates a transparent and auditable record of every movement of value across the platform.
However, certain parts of the platform still remain based on traditional centralised infrastructure. Game logic, RNG and game outcomes continue to be controlled by licensed game providers, just as they are across the wider gaming industry. Similarly, while player balances are fully represented and traceable on-chain, they remain under the custody of licensed operators in order to comply with regulatory and licensing requirements. The key difference is that custody no longer requires blind trust because all fund movements are visible and verifiable on-chain.
Ultimately, we combine the regulatory framework of licensed operators with the transparency and auditability of blockchain technology, delivering a level of trust that traditional online casinos simply cannot provide."
Gaming Eminence: How does the Glass Vault model prove that player funds are available for payouts? Is it simply visibility of balances, or does it change the way funds, liquidity and withdrawals are managed?
Ulle Skottling: "The Glass Vault model goes beyond simply displaying wallet balances. It provides continuous on-chain visibility into how player funds and bankroll liquidity are managed.
When a payout is made, those funds immediately leave the bankroll and return to the player’s wallet. This means they can no longer be used to support future wagers or payouts, providing immediate proof that winnings have been allocated.
While the Glass Vault does not remove the operator’s custodial role, it fundamentally changes the level of transparency. This gives players, operators and partners greater confidence in the platform’s financial integrity.
Gaming Eminence: Smart-contract payouts and on-chain transparency sound powerful, but gambling operators still need AML, sanctions, safer gambling and fraud controls. Where can a payout be paused, blocked or reviewed, and who has that authority?
Ulle Skottling: "Responsibility for AML, sanctions screening, safer gambling and fraud prevention remains entirely with the licensed operator. DeGaming does not replace those regulatory obligations; instead, it provides a more transparent infrastructure through which operators manage player funds.
Operators retain full authority to pause, review, block or approve deposits and withdrawals whenever required under regulation, internal risk policies or compliance procedures. For example, a withdrawal may be legitimately held while AML and fraud checks are carried out, but the key difference is that the underlying player funds remain visible on-chain.
Having worked on the operator side for many years, this is a common concern for players. Traditionally, players had to trust an operator’s assurance that funds remain available during compliance checks. With DeGaming, they can verify that funds remain allocated on-chain while the review is complete. Compliance can still be maintained without sacrificing trust in the security and availability of player funds."
Gaming Eminence: From a commercial adoption perspective, who is DeGaming really built for first: crypto-native operators, regulated operators exploring Web3, white-label brands, affiliates launching casino products, or emerging-market operators with limited access to traditional payments?
Ulle Skottling: "While the platform delivers value across the entire ecosystem, our primary focus is operators serving the growing crypto-native player base. They benefit immediately from on-chain payments, transparent bankroll management and a Web3-native player experience. The platform is also designed to be regulation-agnostic.
The underlying infrastructure and Glass Vault model deliver value regardless of licensing model. Any operator can benefit from increased transparency, verifiable player fund protection, on-chain liquidity management and greater trust with players, affiliates and partners. As adoption of blockchain technology continues to expand, we expect these capabilities to become increasingly relevant."
